Frequently asked questions
Are there grass-fed beef restaurants in Phoenix?
Yes. True Food Kitchen (Biltmore) runs 100% grass-fed beef chain-wide through a Verde Farms partnership, confirmed by a named trade press report. Hopdoddy Burger Bar (Camelback) lists grass-fed pasture-raised beef as a standing sourcing policy and names it on specific burgers. Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co. (Downtown Phoenix) states on its own site that its scratch kitchen buys "only Arizona grass-fed beef," and names K4 Ranch as the source for its smash burgers. Persepshen (Central Phoenix) names 47 Ranch, an independently documented Cochise County operation raised without grain feeding, as the source for a dry-aged beef dish and a roast beef preparation. Several other Phoenix restaurants with press or review-site claims about grass-fed beef, including Hand Cut Chophouse, Ingo's Tasty Food, and Tarbell's, did not carry that language on their current own menus when we checked directly, so we left them off rather than publish a stale or unconfirmed claim. See each listing for exactly what's confirmed and by whom.
What's the difference between "grass-fed" and "pasture-raised" on a Phoenix menu?
They're related but not identical claims, and Phoenix menus use both. "Grass-fed" describes diet: the animal eats grass and forage rather than grain. "Grass-finished" goes further, meaning grass and forage for the animal's entire life, including the final finishing period before slaughter, when many grass-fed cattle are switched to a grain diet to add fat. "Pasture-raised" describes living conditions, that the animal grazed on open pasture, which usually overlaps with grass-fed but doesn't guarantee it on its own. On this list, Persepshen's own menu says "pasture-raised," and we report it exactly that way rather than assuming it also means grass-finished. Arizona Wilderness Brewing's own site says "grass-fed" as a kitchen-wide policy. We always quote the restaurant's own wording so you can judge the claim precisely, not a rounded-up version of it.
